Review: Sally Hansen Brush-On Hair Remover

Hair Removal PCOS Sally Hansen Brush On Hair Remover Chemical Burn

On the left in these pictures, you see a picture I posted on my last blog of some hair removal tools. I LOVE the Sally Hansen Spray-On Remover and the Twinkle Razors, but the Sally Hansen Brush-On Hair Remover is absolute CRAP.

On the right you see my picture. It wasn’t taken immediately after the burn (my bad,) but it was taken 4-5 days later. You can still see the redness around my cupid’s bow and the dimple there. The lines on the side are raised way more than normal due to the chemical burning. Please read below for more details on the product in my review.

What I Liked:

  • NOTHING: I have not one good thing to say about this product.

What I Didn’t Like:

  • The Applicator: I thought the brush on would be good, but it was just annoying and messy. It wasn’t precise in the least bit, which is important when applying chemicals around sensitive areas. (AKA the eyes, mouth, or WHOLE FACE.)
  • The Result: It didn’t remove my hair. Granted, I didn’t leave it on for the full amount of time because I could feel my lip burning, which leads me to…
  • The Chemical Burn: I left it on for probably 30 seconds and could feel my lip BURNING. I knew something wasn’t right, so I removed it. I had a burn on my lip for over a week. It was painful and dry! (I nursed it with lip balm since it was right above my upper lip. The picture above is after about 3 days when I realized I should take a pic for you to see.)
  • The Price VS. Worth: $5-10 is the price, depending on where you’re shopping. It’s $5-10 WAY too much to spend on something that physically burned me!

Conclusion:

DO NOT TRY IT. I even tested this on my arm to see if I was allergic before I used it on my face. I did not burn or anything, but the minute it was on my face, it was painful and left a burn I couldn’t reverse for over a week.

It left me feeling embarrassed, because not only was I trying to get rid of the HAIR on my upper lip from my least favorite PCOS symptom, Hirsutism, but I got a chemical burn and the hair was STILL THERE.

Another friend of mine tried this as well with the same result. I am going to go ahead and say to steer clear of this product.

Glad I could share this and sorry to anyone who tried it after a picture from my last post had it in it without making it clear that this product is AWFUL! Have you tried any chemical removers that were a success? If so, let me know!

    1. Thanks! Since writing this, I’ve talked to many more people who have had the same experience! And Mell says when she used to work at Ulta, she heard complaints about it all the time. NOT cool! ~B

  1. First time I used it left it on for 2 minutes and it burned so bad and left me with redness and then scabs around the corner of my mouth, also it didn’t remove all the lip hair either. I don’t recommend this product and it cost me $7.00 for nothing but burns.
