My friend Nina got married a few weeks ago now and confidently
rocked an amazing dress! She looked whimsical and girly! She also
used the same photographer I am using.
I’ve always felt that people shouldn’t get engaged, then try to lose 50 pounds before the wedding. It doesn’t seem natural to me. If you crash diet, you are very likely to gain the weight back, so the pictures of your “Extreme Weight Loss Wedding” would almost look like strangers- not only to others, but to yourselves. But you know what? It’s your decision!
My decision was to remain “plus size,” or you know– FAT, for my wedding. Of course, if I lost 50 lbs, I would still be overweight, but I have decided to go off my “wedding diet” and just enjoy the next 3 weeks of planning and preparation. If I want to have an ice cream while crafting my seating chart, I will. If eating Reese’s Easter Eggs is what I want to do while arranging my flowers, I will.
If I want to go out to eat for every breakfast, lunch, and dinner while two of my very best friends are in from Minnesota and Canada helping me to prepare for the wedding…You guessed it, I will. I know that food is social and food is comfortable to me. I would rather go off my low calorie diet and enjoy life than sit on the side and feel restricted or upset that I’m dieting when I don’t even want to be!
This is the beautiful recent Bride, AshLeigh. She is gorgeous inside
and out. I’m so glad to call her friend and was happy to celebrate with her
on her big day! Look at how pretty her dress is and how glowing she looks!
I have no doubt in my mind that if I kept dieting until the wedding I could lose 5-10 more pounds before the wedding, but what would I really gain from that? I really wouldn’t look any different.
I am confident that through my choice of being a “Fat Bride,” my husband (Woo! That made me giddy to say!) will still think I am the most beautiful girl in the world. My friends and family won’t be looking at me and thinking “Man, she looks fat in white!” They will be looking through love lenses and seeing my happiness and my effort instead of my double chin and my wings.
Do I have to explain myself? Not one bit. I can choose to diet or not diet as I please. I just wanted to write this to possibly encourage some plus size brides to sit back, relax, and enjoy the festivities that come with getting married. They make wedding dresses in all sizes for all price ranges, so find something that fits you, you feel comfortable and beautiful in, and then worry about weight loss later on.

Beautiful!!
I didn’t diet either. It was already stressful enough planning a wedding and paying for it to worry about dropping a few pounds. I looked awesome and wouldn’t change a thing.
I totally agree with you! I didn’t diet before my wedding, and though I am losing weight now, I’m my wedding photos I look like me! The me that was 27 and didn’t know about PCOS. The me that my soon-to-be husband was in love with. Do I think I looked my best on my wedding day? Yes. Do I think when I hit my weight loss goal, I’ll look at my wedding photos and see a fat bride? No. I’ll see the happiness on my face, the love of the people around me, and remember the amazing time I had planning and enjoying my wedding. Screw the wedding diet. Why would you want to add even more stress to what should be one of the happiest times of your life! Just remember to step back, look at what is happening, and enjoy!
