Top 4 Blogger Basics:
1. Find & Solidify Your Voice/Purpose
- We talked a lot about what goes into the process of making a blog. One of the main things that kept being brought up is making sure you write what you’re passionate about. This makes the process of blogging an interesting and fun one. You want to be at the point where you don’t feel an OBLIGATION to write, but more like you just can’t stop writing. That’s the blogging sweet spot where you know you are doing something right!
2. Be Sure to Make Your Blog Simple & Searchable
- Keeping things clean is really important when it comes to keeping people engaged and making sure they come back to your blog. If your blog is just all around too much then you should take a step back. Look at some of your favorite sites. You’ll notice the trend that they all are simple, but have just enough extra to make it sparkle. The cleaner it is, the more easily searchable your site will be. Easy searching = happy readers!
3. Follow Your Audience
- It’s not enough to just know who you are targeting, but you also need to know what their habits and likes are. I have found that my greatest following is on Instagram, closely followed by Twitter. I can admit, I wasn’t a huge Twitter fan at first, but I had to adjust my thinking so that I could be right where my readers are! You may have to try some things you never thought you would like, but once you begin to more effectively communicate with your followers, it will all be worth it! (Remember, not everyone is going to get in your comments and say what they think! Nowadays, people are much more likely to take to social media.)
4. Keep a Schedule
- People like consistency. It starts at infancy, where you expect to sleep at certain times, goes into childhood, where you know your school schedule, and follows into adulthood. You know where you need to be and when, and you stick to it! People like to see pages that show dedication and relevancy. The best and most effective way to do this is to stay top of mind, let people know when/where they can find you, and set up your expectations realistically!
