Whether you are commuting by train, car, bike, Uber, or any other mode of transportation, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared for the unexpected (but completely expected at the same time.) I commute from my subdivision on the Northwest side of Indianapolis to the heart of downtown every day. The downtown Indy area is extremely accessible to walk, but not so great on the transportation side. (We definitely have a long way to go!)
If I leave my office to run errands or go to lunch, I am usually speed-walking to get there and back in a timely fashion. I say fashion literally, because my choice of shoes isn’t always the most comfortable. Whether I’m in booties (which can rub the back of your foot like crazy) or heels (hardly) or my Birkenstocks (mostly,) I know I will have a blister or rub my foot raw if I don’t do something to prevent it! This leads me to the first item in my Commuter Kit! Read below to see what I’ve picked to keep with me in my bag for on the go.
COMPEED® Blister Cushions Medium- I used to rely on bandages before I found these tiny miracles! Unfortunately, they would end up falling off or scrunching up. I was always SO MAD, but then I realized that’s not what they are for. So when I found these, I couldn’t be happier. They stay put, provide comfort, and basically act like a second skin. You can find these (and all the other sizes they have) only at Walgreens, which is convenient, because I can spend hours in there anyway!
Hand Sanitizer- When you’re downtown, you can come in contact with some questionable things. Whether it’s touching the handrail on some stairs, an elevator button, or the parking meter, it’s better to be safe than sorry! I really love the Walgreens brand. My favorite is the apple scent, but I like the coconut one as well.
Hair Elastics, Bobby Pins & Hair Spray- I can’t be the only one who will start my day off with high hopes and hair down. Most of the time, I end up throwing it up in a top knot before the day is over. There’s nothing worse than wanting to get your hair out of your face or tame your fly-aways and not having supplies to do so.
Deodorant- Of course, you can use deodorant for when you start to get stinky from being too active. OR you could be like me and just forget to put it on almost every morning. It’s nice to have it just in case, plus it’s great for chaffing in other areas too, if you know what I mean!
Perfume/Body Spray- The deodorant will get rid of your stinky pit problems, but if you just end up smelling like outside or your favorite lunch spot, perfume or body spray is a nice addition to your commuter kit. It makes going from work to wine easier! My perfume of choice is the Cleopatra scent by Tocca. It’s fresh and cucumbery, so it’s easy to wear and isn’t offensive in the office.
Guys, be sure to try out those COMPEED® Blister Cushions Medium. They will be a total game changer! Please leave any ideas for what I could add to my kit in the comments below. I’d love to hear your Commuter Kit essentials!
