Did you all know that May is National Arthritis Month? 53 million Americans suffer from Arthritis, and I am one of them! Cue the “but you’re not an old lady!” talk. Arthritis knows no age, because I was about 18 when I started having issues. I know you want to know the story.
I was on Spring Break in Gatlinburg, TN with my family and a high school friend. My grandparents lived in the area, so we stayed with them, but we also got out to do all the fun touristy things. We went horseback riding down a mountain. All the horses were named after states. (I was on Montana, in case you were wondering.) It just so happens that Montana tripped over a tree root and fell down. It sent me off the horse, and ended up breaking my finger.
When I went to the hospital, the doctors said they couldn’t do anything for it. Unfortunately, they were wrong- they could have reset it. So now, I have a finger that “healed” incorrectly, and has truly been a PAIN ever since.
Now, whenever I am doing anything that requires my right hand (read: pretty much everything,) my hand swells and throbs in pain, and if it goes on long enough, the pain travels up my arm. The only thing that makes it feel better is Advil. I especially love the Advil EZ Open, because the EZ open cap is perfect for people struggling with Arthritis! (They also make a Nexium 24HR EZ Open, if you suffer from heartburn at times like I do! Ask a doctor before use if you have a history of stomach problems, such as heartburn.)
When I have the Advil in my system and I’m feeling good, I am able to do all the things I usually want to do, but have pain when attempting to do them. My list goes on and on, but on the top of that list is writing of any sort. Typing is difficult enough, but writing is HORRIBLE with arthritis pain. Since Advil makes my hand feel good, why not use my hand to pass it on and make someone else feel good?!
I’ve included a fun list of quick starters to write someone a note. I like to call the gesture “The Art of Feeling Good” to feed off the fact that Advil makes my arthritis pain seemingly disappear. It helps me to feel good again so I want to make others feel good too.
