While working out wasn’t a resolution for me this year, I have banned together with some of my favorite people to peer pressure each other into working out. We have done some pretty cool things to make this happen, so I thought I would share with you so you can rope your friends into being your workout buddies, trainers, DJs, motivational speakers, and even more like I have! Check out 4 of the driving factors to creating our co-op home gym below!
GROUP TEXTS
With us all in one text group, there can’t be any secrecy. (For the most part…) We can use the group messaging to decide on a time that works for everyone, or schedule it so no one is working out alone unless they WANT to, or there is no other way. It is motivating to see one of my friends pumped and ready for a workout. I don’t want to let them down, so I am going to do my best to get motivated right along with them. If we can tell someone is feeling down, we can work to motivate them and see if there is anything we can do to help. What did workout partners do without text messages, anyway?
SPOTIFY PLAYLIST
I’m a must have jams type of person for my workouts. Or for my anything, really…but I needs the jamz, so I brings the jamz. I just had my friends tell me 5-10 of their favorite songs to listen to while working out, so if I have it on a speaker, we all can hope and wish for something we added to list and then really bust a move once it comes on. If you are looking for some motivation, you can check out my Spotify Playlist below.
SHARED SPACE
My friends and I are not going to a gym. We COULD if we didn’t have the space, but each of our homes have great basement areas in which we have some equipment set up as well as some space for floor work, and even TVs for following along with videos. It’s cheaper for us than going to a gym, and we have everything we need! We don’t have to wait on that machine we want while a stranger basically drowns it in sweat….we get the security of knowing our FRIENDS are creepily putting their fluids on the machines. HA- that could make it worse, so luckily I am joking. It is awesome to have the intimate space with shared interest and only 4 of us at most down there needing a machine or space!
SHARED KNOWLEDGE
Now, I am not great at coming up with workout routines or knowing what to do to work on what body part, but luckily, one of my friends has that DOWN. I can, however, provide some SERIOUSLY bumpin’ jams, and share some food knowledge. One of my best friends is great about knowing all the workouts and what they do to your body, my husband is great with knowing the protein to fiber to vegetable ratios, and I am rather good at the creative, meal prep and recipes/hacks. It’s fun to share not only in the shared exercise, but the shared mindset of eating healthy. This means we can get together, have one person prepare dinner, all have dinner, then head downstairs in one of our shared spaces to get a good workout in!
I hope this gives you a good idea for something you could do with friends or family that is a cheaper, more intimate solution versus going into a gym! Leave me ideas of how we can expand upon our idea below or just let me know what you do to save money but still get a good workout in!
