It’s time we talk about an important part of blogging, and that is social sharing. Sharing, liking, commenting- these are all ways we communicate these days, and it’s the best way to spread the word about the blog you’re pouring your heart into. How else will everyone know about the awesome work you do if you are not your biggest sharer and supporter.
I’ve compiled a list of 6 Social Networks to Share Your Blog On and WHY it’s important for each network. You need to know WHAT to share on each social site, because each really do have a different style of Internet user!
Instagram is the fastest growing social network, and with it’s heavy weight on visual, it’s a great way to give people a picture of your blog and a reason to click through. Instagram is the one that I always weigh the most heavily, but it’s not even the one I get the most traffic on.
I think a lot of people put a lot of weight into seeing what others are up to on Instagram, but you need to be careful to not compare yourself to others in a way that’s detrimental to your own success! We can get caught up in looking at what others are doing on Instagram, but do your best to be happy for your peers. Make sure you are using Instagram to share and support and it will be a great tool for your blog!
Now with the integration of Instastories? IG is limitless as far as reach goes and makes it SO EASY to connect with like-minded people!
While the tweens may say Facebook is out, it’s still great and easy to share links and ideas. I love being able to share with a group of people who have chosen to see me in their daily feeds. Really! I love that people actually choose to see my posts in between updates from friends and family.
Facebook is a great space to be able to share a bit more about your blog and a direct link to the post. It’s also much more easily shared than on Instagram, so it’s a great place to share your posts in hopes that people will love your content and share with their friends as well!
I love to scroll through Twitter. There is some interesting stuff on there, and I love the real-time updates. I always feel like I can say what I really think on there without the judginess that may come from Facebook or the professionalism I need to portray on Instagram. It’s a real #afterdark type of situation over there, and that’s why I feel like it helps to communicate with readers in a different way.
I always link all my posts over there, so my feed stays filled with links and photos for my followers, but I love to live-tweet events or TV shows as well! I also just love being able to tell silly stories or say a quick snarky comment I would never put on other platforms. It’s also another place that’s as easy as clicking RT to share.
Pinterest is my blog’s traffic bread and butter. If you’re blogging and not utilizing Pinterest, you aren’t living up to your full potential. So you’re already creating great content and photos? Why not share them in a place where people literally scour and save beautiful content all day!?
Make your captions keyword dense for the content you’re providing and watch some great traffic start coming to your site- all searching for just the thing you’re writing about! I have a few pins that have become pretty popular, and I literally get multiple emails per week of people telling me they found me through Pinterest! It’s awesome!
YOUTUBE
I remember when I first found YouTube. My fascination with videos and following people’s lives through their lenses haven’t stopped. I think utilizing video is important for creatives. You don’t have to make a new video every week, but having a YouTube channel is a great way to draw in another audience, show a bit more of your personality, and add diversity to your site in an instant. You don’t have to make a 25 minute, detailed video. It’s probably more beneficial to keep it under 5, keep it simple, and be yourself!
SNAPCHAT
Speaking of video, the power that instant video social networking like SnapChat (and InstaStories) now have is incredible. You can so easily connect on a more personal, frequent, informal level that it was hard to do in the days of just having a blog or even a YouTube.
I am personally not into SnapChat unless it’s from my husband and it’s 36,243 daily pictures of our cats, but I LOVE Instastories. They just seem to be so quick and easy…and the engagement back is something that can be lacking from a whole social media campaign! I think it’s a smart, fun way to connect.
