Cats are the best, right? I find myself telling people about them as if they were my children, and well, they basically are! I cannot get enough of my little critters! They are funny, cuddly, and I don’t have to watch them every hour of the day. Basically- cats are better than kids. That’s what I’m figuring out as I type this up!
Speaking of how cats are the best, I have to give a big shout out to Joey 2 Chainz and North! They are always willing to help me out with blog posts. Then again, they are always happy to try new foods or get restock of ones they already love, like Rachael Ray™ Nutrish®, who have kindly collaborated with me on this blog post to bring you a balanced dish and a fun hideout for your cats.
My cats love two things: FOOD and BOXES. I mean, they love me, but they REALLY love food and boxes. They are always really excited when they see me go into the cabinet that holds all their Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® Purrfect Entrees™ and Longevity Chicken with Chickpeas & Salmon Recipe. Now, admittedly, Joey loves wet food more than North, but North is the dry food queen!
Now, how about those boxes? Anyone else have a kitty that’s obsessed?! I got a box in the mail once and they claimed it as their own for MONTHS. I wanted to throw it out because it kept getting beat up and looked horrible in the living room, but I ended up leaving it out just because they loved it so much! I finally got fed up with the plain, ugly box in my living room, so my solution was to do a DIY cat house with only two simple materials that you probably have laying around your house!
All you need is a medium sized box and a long-sleeved sweater! You can use a sweater you would otherwise donate or if you don’t have any, you can easily go into a thrift store and find one to match your home decor for just a few bucks! Read below for the simplest instructions you could imagine so you can begin building a fun little house for your feline pals also!
DIY CAT HOUSE
Materials
- Medium cardboard box
- Long-sleeved sweater
Instructions
- Turn the box so the opening is facing the ceiling. Be sure to push in the flaps or cut them off.
- Take the sweater and put it on the box as if you were getting it dressed for the day, with the hole in the top as the “head.” This will leave an entrance into the cat house that is circular from the neck hole and hides the whole box.
- Pull back the sleeves and tie behind the box.
- Introduce your cats and watch them love their new hideout!
Tips
- Make sure your box is large enough for your cat but not too large that a sweater won’t fit over it.
- Finding a sweater with a crew neck is better than boat neck or turtleneck, because it leaves a more natural, circular opening.
- I back my cat house up to a wall, so the back where the sleeves are tied does not matter to me, but you could do simple stitching to keep it looking more uniform and less messy if you think people will see the back.
As you may be able to tell, North has claimed the house for herself, so when Joey goes in it, she bops him on the head and tries to get him out! I may end up having to make another, which wouldn’t be a problem, because it takes all of 3 minutes to make!
