Welcome to the second look at our weekend at Lake Wawasee: Surf, Turf, & Tablescape! If you didn’t see my Lunch at Lake Wawasee post yet, you can click here to see the first half of our fun weekend! This post is in collaboration with Moody’s Butcher Shop and Caskata Tableware. Special thank you to Kate Ruddell from Into Indy and her family for the accommodations and Kaylee Creighton for the beautiful photos and table styling.
AFTERNOON ON THE WATER
The morning of our first full day at the lake was rainy and slow, but luckily, the afternoon shaped up to be sunny and lovely. We had a great time out on the dock and taking the boat out! My pregnant self was stuffed into a bathing suit for the first time this summer. Didn’t mind it one bit, but I did spend most of the time hiding in the shade so I wouldn’t get burnt instead of laying out like everyone else. #palegirlsrock
Dress is Forever 21 & bikini is Lane Bryant from last year.
COOKING THE LOBSTER & STEAK
What an adventure. I have NEVER cooked lobster, I researched and then nothing went according to plan. Luckily, Kelli from Big Hair and Foodie Fare was there to jazz up one of the lobster tails and the other went KIND OF to plan with chopping in half. I will say, it was an adventure I will choose not to partake in again, however…I think everyone should try it once!
We got our LIVE Maine lobsters from Moody’s Butcher Shop, and they have tips on cooking lobster here. We went a step further and threw them on a grill with a garlic & herb butter. They ended up being delicious and well-worth the hassle!
For our NY Strip Steaks, Kelli taught us how to make a blue cheese crust. HOW DELICIOUS?! And how had I never thought of doing that before. We put in crumbled blue cheese, fresh minced garlic, a splash of milk, flour, salt and pepper, then we topped the steak with yummy little balls of this concoction. Kelli did the honors of grilling the steak and lobster. (She had never done it before & KILLED IT!)
On the side, I made a potato and vegetable fry-up as well as some grilled asparagus. Let’s just say we ate like champs. I think I’m STILL full from this meal!
SETTING THE TABLE
Can you even deal with how beautiful this tablescape is? The Casablanca collection by Caskata is my newest obsession and I will tell anyone and everyone I meet about my love for it. I love how it mixes and matches, goes so well with pops of color, and just looks so dang classy! I’m a huge fan of black and white, so when I saw this collection my heart took a huge leap.
Kaylee arranged these gorgeous flowers from Trader Joe’s (who would have guessed?!) that she got for $18 to perfection and the colors have me swooning. Add in the pretty little name cards and you have an easy table set up that stuns but with zero fuss.
Hope you all enjoyed this fun look at our lake weekend! We had an absolute blast together- blog brainstorming, having some laughs, getting out on the lake, and of course collaborating with some fun brands we love!
See Kate, Kelli, and Kaylee‘s social media to be updated on their posts about the weekend as well! Would you consider a lake trip for your next little getaway?
