2022 WORD OF THE YEAR & GOALS

Farewell, 2021. I will not miss you at all. I don’t want to get into TOO MUCH detail in this post, because I have a whole post coming up (tomorrow) that is a recap of the w i l d year that my family had. Just know that I chose my “word of the year” to be SURVIVAL IN 2021, and I meant it to be kind of funny and ironic. It was the best I could have picked. From January all the way through December, we had ups and a lot of downs. Maybe I set myself up for a year of survival by choosing that word? Probably.

CLARITY

My word of 2022 is clarity. I think it goes well with the words I have had in the past. The ones from the last couple of years have been SIMPLIFY, CONTENTMENT, SURVIVAL, and now CLARITY. I think it’s really cool to see the story of my life through the progression of these words. I know a lot of people choose these words and don’t ever think of them again, but I try to reflect on them often throughout the year and after.

The craziness that has been my last year of life has really had me work hard to get things done, prioritize new areas of life, actually work to find time to put myself first, and survive life as a wife and mother of a three-year-old and twin infants. All of this plays into the goals I’m setting for myself and my family.

Without getting into the whole “resolutions vs. goals” debate, I hope sharing my goals doesn’t pressure you into changing anything about your life if you’re not ready to. I like to refer to them as goals. These are simply steps we are ready to take, and you can look back on the last 10 years of my blog posts and see that my progression has been at my own pace. I do hope this posts gives you an update on my life as well as ideas for your own life and family in whatever way it fits for you.

2022 GOALS BY CATEGORY

PERSONAL

  1. Continue to define who I am outside of influence and in this space that I am in currently as a wife, mother, and creative individual.
  2. Read 50 books (again.) I read over 60 in 2021! I don’t feel the need to “beat” that goal as I’m just impressed that I met it! (Follow along with me on Good Reads.)
  3. Try new things – more to come on this one!
  4. Simplify my wardrobe…again. It’s gotten out of control again, and I mostly wear athleisure as it is! (Trying to use a wardrobe tracker as well, so this might be a year-long revamp so I can have data for myself to make educated decisions.)
  5. Follow an intuitive eating style where I really listen to what my body needs vs. emotional eating/binging.

CAREER

  1. Continue to work on setting up my website to work automatically without me. I know this sounds like a weird one, but it’s more of a back-end site type of thing paired with searchable, saveable, and sharable content.
  2. Post regularly, and really just apply all the things I tell people at my 9-5 are important for their own websites and social media.
  3. Be thoughtful about editing. In 2020, I did a lot of videos. I was very sloppy with editing. I do prioritize ease and time, but I want to find an efficient, but polished way to edit my videos since I plan on adding more long and short form video.
  4. Continue to grow in my position at 1909 DIGITAL. I’d love apply my project management hat more often, and continue to be a valuable part of a team that is transparent and has the courage to follow through and follow up.
  5. Gain more education via online courses, certifications, conferences, networking, and more!

FAMILY

  1. One date night with Brett per month. I don’t care if I have to pay a babysitter $100 bucks to do it, we need to prioritize our relationship.
  2. Get into more of a “routine” as the twins become toddlers with less infant-style needs.
  3. Make a fun, weekly, Friday night tradition. (This might take time to figure out what is ours, but we can take time figuring it out this year.)
  4. Get outside more often when weather allows. Move more in general.
  5. Get Clara into a weekly extracurricular, whether it be swimming, dance, or another sport.
  6. Be proactive about making appointments and following through for health and mental health.

HOME

  1. Find a solution for fireplace eyesore. Whether we put money into having someone renovate it or we do a DIY paint, it just needs to be revamped to match the rest of the living area.
  2. Make an extensive list of all the small repairs that need to be done, figure out what can be DIY projects or what we need to hire someone to do. Work through completing that list in 2022.
  3. Build back up a savings account after the wreck that 2022 caused!
  4. Do DIY “built-ins” on a wall in the breezeway.
  5. Work on the landscaping in the spring.

I like to keep my goals and resolutions practical, but the list is on the long side. I’d love to hear what your goals are this year.
