When it comes to screen time, I am not against it at all. I know some people are, but the truth of the matter is, screens are just a way of life these days. My goal with my children is to make sure they are getting a great balance of educational learning and play. This goes for life at home, daycare, school, and during screen time.
My three year old is always asking for art activities, and with two infants crawling around, it can be hard to get all the arts and crafts out to play with. Don’t get me wrong, nothing replaces good old paper and Crayola markers in our home, but when I need a distraction while I chase the babies, I know that we have found the best option to aid in child development, provide educational games, and let her get creative!
Our new favorite app for kids is Crayola Create and Play. It checks all the boxes for us, especially since there is the ability to do a lot of creative play and art as well as educational games! You can download the app (available on iOS, Android and Amazon devices) to try for seven days for free to let your child try it for yourself, but beyond that, it’s very inexpensive for the year! For less than the cost of a movie outing for your family, you could get Crayola Create and Play for a year! When you buy the subscription, you make the app ad free, and unlock all the games for your child to explore.
One of the things I love most about the app is that it’s a safe space for my kids to develop creative confidence. It’s an amazing space to let them freely express themselves, but gives them the structure to do so constructively. Many of the games teach creative problem solving, which goes along with our home mantra of trying to figure out another solution before whining or giving up. (Easier said than done sometimes, but this can be built with practice and time!)
There is new monthly content that goes along with the seasons, holidays, and more. My daughter has loved seeing the new things in the app! Another thing she loves is the pets! She gets a kick out of hatching them and caring for them. She also thinks it’s super fun when they hatch with her design drawn on the pet inside that she made on the egg prior to cracking!
This morning, Clara was deeply involved in her Crayola Create & Play game where she was doing pixel painting. She was painting pixel by pixel, choosing from all the crayon varieties, and made her artwork animated in the end, which really tickled her! Pixel painting is one that your child can try without the subscription, so if that’s any indication of the greatness Create & Play can offer, that’s saying something!
Clara loves to make art on her tablet while I do my vector art on mine. She thinks she’s being “just like mommy” and you know what? She kind of is! The only thing that makes her happier is using my tablet to play on the app, because she loves to use my Apple Pencil (it’s compatible) to make her own creations!
If you have a child, between the ages 3-8, they will love trying the Crayola Create & Play app. Download the app today, sign up for a free trial, and find out if your child loves it as much as mine does!
