New You in 2014: How to Get Active for (Basically) Free

I bought a Planet Fitness membership last year in February. I didn’t even start out doing well with going. I thought I wanted to run. I suck at running. It’s not for me. So I just stopped going (and kept paying) and I don’t think that should have gotten the membership. You see, I  just wasn’t committed enough. Sure…there will be some time in the future where a gym will be necessary, but that time isn’t right now.

A lot of people say they would love to get in shape, but they don’t have the money to join a gym. Today, I wanted to talk to you about some options for getting fit and active without spending much, if any, money.

1. Mall Walking: You think only your grandma can do this? NOPE. I love mall walking with my fiance. Of course, we go into stores too because we are shopaholics, but HEY! It’s getting us up and active and moving.

2. Craigslist: Obviously, be careful. I feel like this shouldn’t have to be said, but just in case. A lot of times people buy exercise equipment with the intent to use it, and then it just sits around taking up room. They become desperate and offer to give it away for free online….so snatch that up! If you have the room and the intent, then take advantage of the free-ness.

3. Free-Load: Find a friend with a gym and convince them to take you every Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Thanks, new BFF!

4. Sweat in the Spirit: You could do this literally. Get into a Pentecostal church and start dancing with the Lord. But I was meaning that you could go to Goodwill and get some random old dance aerobics videos! I found Sweating in the Spirit 2 at Goodwill for half off…and it’s one of the best work out videos ever. See if you can find some old Richard Simmons or I’ve even seen some Jillian Michaels ones there.

5. Just Move: I wrote a blog not too long ago about this, but just get to moving. You burn calories from every little thing you do when you’re moving.
